Retail Associate

Compass Rose is a Northern Minnesota gift shop filled with meaningful products inspired by cabin mornings, nature, Nordic roots, family trips up north, and laid-back adventure. We help customers find gifts and keepsakes that celebrate the places they love, the moments they share, and the memories they make.

We’re looking for a warm, energetic, and dependable Retail Associate to join our team. The right person is customer-minded, enjoys helping people, and is comfortable taking initiative and solving problems. You’ll help create a welcoming shopping experience while supporting the daily operation, appearance, and organization of the store.

What You’ll Do

  • Welcome customers and provide warm, attentive service

  • Help shoppers find products and choose thoughtful gifts for different people and occasions

  • Learn our merchandise and make helpful product recommendations

  • Process purchases, returns, exchanges, discounts, and gift cards accurately using our point-of-sale system

  • Wrap and package purchases according to store standards

  • Restock merchandise and maintain attractive, organized displays

  • Keep the sales floor, checkout area, stockroom, and other store areas clean and inviting

  • Receive, unpack, price, and organize incoming merchandise

  • Assist with inventory counts and communicate low-stock or product concerns

  • Complete opening and closing procedures, handle cash, and serve as a keyholder when scheduled

  • Work independently in the store when scheduled and use good judgment when resolving customer or operational concerns

  • Support seasonal transitions, promotions, special events, and other store needs

  • Work collaboratively with store leadership and fellow team members

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous retail and customer-service experience

  • A customer-minded approach and genuine desire to help people

  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment

  • Dependability, punctuality, and consistent follow-through

  • A warm, positive, and energetic attitude

  • Clear communication and the ability to work well with others

  • Initiative and the ability to remain productive during both busy and slower periods

  • Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a beautiful, organized store

  • Comfort working independently, opening and closing the store, handling keys, and managing cash responsibly

  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a customer-focused environment

  • Availability to work during store hours and at least two Saturdays per month

  • Ability to remain on your feet for most of the workday and lift or move up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation

Schedule

Compass Rose is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. This part-time position averages 20–30 hours per week and requires availability for at least two Saturdays each month. We offer flexibility in scheduling and have both year-round and seasonal opportunities available.
